resource Therapy training

Resource Therapy (RT) is a trauma-informed, parts-based therapy developed by Professor Gordon Emmerson. It is based on the understanding that our personality is made up of many parts called Resource States. Each state has its own feelings, memories, and ways of coping.

Sometimes, a Resource State becomes stuck in pain or locked into an old coping role. This can show up as fear, rejection, depression, addictions, inner conflict, or distressing self-beliefs.

RT offers 15 precise therapeutic “Actions” that allow us to:

  • Speak directly with the part holding the problem

  • Help it express and release old pain

  • Bring in new resources and adaptive ways of coping

  • Restore balance and integration in the whole system

RT is experiential, respectful, and works beautifully alongside therapies such as EMDR and attachment-informed approaches.

RT provides guided structure whilst allowing you to work creatively and authentically with each participant.

  • Anyone in a Helping Profession can do the Foundations course.

The Clinical Course requires that you are trained as a Mental Health Professional such as a Psychologist, Mental Health Social Worker or Occupational Therapist, or a Counsellor. In order to tailor my trainings to suit my audience, you will be asked about your professional background when completing the training application. In particular you will be asked if you are an EMDR therapist as the trainings are especially developed with these clinicians in mind.

Everyone is welcome at the trainings regardless of therapeutic background and we will work hard to make sure your learning experience is supported in every way.

  • I bring an energetic, neuroaffirming, and inclusive approach to training. I create learning spaces that are safe, collaborative, and deeply respectful of neurodivergent and diverse ways of being. My enthusiasm for Resource Therapy and EMDR is infectious, and I take care to translate complex theory into practical, accessible skills that build confidence. Bringing warmth, rigour, and curiosity, I support therapists to feel both challenged and encouraged, helping them grow in competence while staying grounded in compassion and integrity. As I am an EMDR consultant, I have created these trainings with EMDR therapists in mind. There are many similar concepts and tools in RT and EMDR and I draw on EMDR to help broaden the understanding of RT.

However, my trainings are still accessible for all therapists regardless of previous experience and training modalities. Please feel free to contact me to learn more.

  • I am committed to using my good fortune and priviledge to support others doing amazing work. 5% of all profits from Trainings will be donated to The Iceberg Foundation and Jilya Institute.

“The Iceberg Foundation is a mental health charity by and for the breadth of the LGBTIQAP+ and Neurodivergent communities, especially people of the global majority. TIF seeks to significantly reduce barriers for people seeking mental health support by providing low and no cost identity affirming, anti-colonial and anti-oppressive supports. We don’t believe that healing only happens in a room with a therapist but also strongly believe that it happens through community connections, sharing food, story telling and when all parts of a person are seen, celebrated and cherished. Any donation to TIF sustains our mission to bring accessible and identity affirming care to all LGBTIQAP+ and neurodivergent folks. Join our village and support us to shape a kinder and more affirming world.” Mish Kumar-Jonson

Mishma Kumar-Jonson is someone I know who walks the walk each and every day in the work they do. I admire their passion and dedication to making a difference which is why we are passionate about supporting them.
