Intuitive Therapy Group Supervision

What is Intuitive Therapy?

Something I have noticed is that people are often told to trust their intuition in their therapeutic work with participants to help guide them.

But no one ever really defines what that is. Is it something spiritual, just goodattunement or your instinct, or something else?

I don’t have the answers to this … yet (I’m working on it). But I know that I havemoments in session where I feel guided by my intuition to say something, share with the participant an image I have in my head, even though my mind may not know why. Very often these moments (when I trust them) offer something deeper for the participant. It may be words that no one has ever spoken to them before, an image unlocks adaptive information in a very personal way.

I also know that many of my colleagues and supervisees have these moments too. And because it’s a “bit weird” or “woo woo” we don’t say anything because it’s not science.

However, therapy as it stands today is more visible as a colonist construct that centres itself as the Expert founded on science and a solid evidence base. But it ignores wisdom and knowledge from all over the world that is founded on intuition and other less quantifiable knowledge and knowing.

I have long maintained we can’t keep reducing people to numbers and get away with it. Numbers can’t capture the energy transfer in the room, numbers don’t tell us how visceral an experience with a participant was. Numbers limit us to therapy styles that don’t go deep enough, skating around on the surface, never getting to the heart of the matter.

There are many weird things that have happened to me in therapy I can’t fully explain and I have the privilege of knowing many stories from others. These stories are often whispered about, quietly. We fear ridicule, being seen as unethical or practicing in non-evidence-based ways that may see us disciplined or worse, deregistered. And yet, the experiences and stories persist.

Intuitive Therapy Group Supervision

Whilst I work on understanding exactly what Intuition in Therapy really is and what it can be I decided that people need a safe space to share the weird, the unexplainable, the moments that felt profound and shifted things deeply for the participant. I wanted a space for people to talk openly about their intuitive skills and how they use them, what happens when they do and how we can use it more.

I believe that when we open ourselves up to using our intuition more, we deepen the connection between us, strengthening the therapeutic relationship which is foundational to any therapeutic change.

If you’re interested in exploring this part of you, of your work and connecting with like-minded people then you may be interested in attending these Group Supervisions.

Numbers are limited to ensure safety, build connection and community, and allow for deeper sharing and learning.

Intuitive Therapy and EMDR

I believe that we have a special opportunity within EMDR that gives us a space to attune deeply with our participants and listen for our intuition. Within every set, we have 25-30 seconds whilst the BLS are happening to notice our participants, to notice what we arises within us as we attune together, and once attuned, to listen even more deeply to an inner knowing, or an external guidance. However our intuition shows up and we see, hear, sense or know it, we can learn to trust it more and deepen the work for our participants.
